Solar Mentoring Scheme

Australia-Pacific Solar Mentoring Program

This program will target to connect Australian mentors with Pacific grid connect PV systems and off-grid PV system installers to facilitate knowledge exchange and industry development as part of the Pacific's goal to achieve 100% renewable energy. The program will be managed by the Smart Energy Council which will select relevant members to support their Pacific colleagues with the Sustainable Energy Industry Association for Pacific Islands (SEIAPI) seeking expressions of interest from its members for mentoring.

Visits and support

Mentors will undertake short term visits to the region to gain an understanding and appreciation of how their corresponding mentee's solar business operates and through participating in installations to provide on the job training to build on training undertaken by the mentee at the PSETC or in-country training centre. Mentors will also undertake inspections of recent installations to provide feedback on the installation with respect to relevant standards and guidelines and to provide any other support identified during their short-term visits with ongoing mentoring online between visits and potentially hosting mentee workers for short-term training opportunities.

The bigger picture

More broadly, it is envisaged that the program will contribute to the professionalisation of the industry in the Pacific and support the adoption of appropriate standards for training and systems.
